A song about dinosaur pee…and how it came about
From all the songs I’ve made, this is by far the one my kids like the most. Wich kid wouldn’t like a song with the words “dinosaur pee” in the lyrics ?! But how on earth did I come up with such an idea?
Actually, it all started very “enlightened”. About the time that I started to write songs, I was doing a 40-day mantra meditation “challenge” – one of the meditations was about the Universe and how it’s all connected.
During the meditation, the idea came for a song about how every little part of us was already here at the time for the dinosaurs… even the Big Bang. I remember already as a child that I was fascinated to think about how maybe some drops of the water I was drinking had been drunken by a dinosaur… In fact, I remember getting quite dizzy thinking about eternity, both time- and space-wise and trying to “get” this concept of no start and no end…
So I started to think about all the things we’re made of, and where that might have been earlier – Water and coal, of course, but also the iron in our blood, the sulfur that is an important part of the proteins, the calcium in our bones, etc. etc. And as it turns out, one of the words that rhyme with “me” is… yeah, the p-word, obviously. 😛
The melody to this song I first built around the chords from the mantra that accompanied the meditation. It started out in a singer-songwriter style, only accompanied by the piano. Then recently I discovered some cool features in Garageband, and the song magically transformed itself into a funk song 🙂
I’m still working with my piano/voice coach, and my voice has been improving a lot lately. The recording I used for this video is a bit old – I got the impulse to create the video a few weeks ago, thought I’d make a new recording of the vocals and add later, but the kids where home from school and wanted to join in choosing pictures and transitions, we loved the result and before I knew it, and I’d uploaded the thing to Youtube…
If you’d like to get notified once I’ve made that new recording of the vocals, please subscribe to my newsletter 🙂
Much love to you! /Ann-Sofi
